BARNEGAT BAY SAILING HALL OF FAME SEEKS 2010 NOMINEES
The Selection Committee of the Barnegat Bay Sailing Hall of Fame is seeking nominees for 2010. Dedicated to promoting the area’s maritime sailing heritage, candidates must have significantly “Enhanced Barnegat Bay’s maritime character and strengthened its status as a maritime center” on or off the water.
The Barnegat Bay Sailing Hall of Fame exists to promote and preserve this unique area’s past and future sailing heritage.
As New Jersey’s largest inland body of water, Barnegat Bay had enticed sailors since Henry Hudson’s look through Barnegat Inlet four hundred years ago. Sailing has evolved over the years from commercial fishermen and a means of transportation to excellent sailing competition and cruising at its finest. Boat builders in the Barnegat Bay area have been recognized throughout the world.
Racing sailors from Barnegat Bay have reached the pinnacle of their sport, having won national and world championships; others Olympic medals and been part of winning America’s Cup teams.
Nominations from the sailing public are being collected for this year’s inductees. Names of candidates must be accompanied by a biographical overview and a statement indicating how the person’s achievements have furthered Barnegat Bay’s sailing heritage.
Nominations should be sent to Hall of Fame chairman Buzz Reynolds at jreynolds345@comcast.net by June 1st, 2010.
Inductees will be formally honored at Ocean County College on October 2, 2010. Past inductees can be found by visiting the Barnegat Bay Sailing Hall of Fame web site at http://www.bbshf.org.
